I have tried many different methods for running an XMR node:
monreod through systemdThese are all good - but the easiest I've found was to just run it through UmbrelOS or TrueNAS (or whatever home server software you're running that enables easy docker installation). For me, I had Umbrel running already, so I used that.
Very basic instructions for umbrel are:
I know this isn't the most secure, but I (probably very incorrectly) have presumed that others have, and continue to, monitor for any security issues.
With the node all synced up, going onto the app gives you so very very easy options for interfacing. Using it as a remote node is as simple as clicking the "+ CONNECT" button, selecting the way you want to interface with it (RPC (Tor)) for me, and copy+pasting the details into your Monero wallet.
Simple! Effective! (Marginally) More Secure!
